Meriting Ruach Hakodesh

Rav Shaul Brach zy”a, Rov of Kashau, testified that Rav Shaya merited his lofty levels of greatness in the merit of his incredible tzedakah and chesed.

When Rav Shaya visited Kashau, Rav Shaul greeted him warmly and with much honor. When he took his leave, Rav Shaul told those in the room, “The Chasam Sofer zy”a said that without comprehensive knowledge of Shas and Poskim, it is impossible to attain ruach hakodesh.”

He added, “If the Chasam Sofer had seen the Rebbe, he would admit that it is also possible to attain ruach hakodesh through gemilus chasadim.”
